Sunday Rs: Let August Be August

Sunday Rs: Let August Be August

Returning. Remembering. Resting in the fullness of now.

You may not agree with me on this, but I firmly believe there is a particular kind of morning that only August brings.

Slower. Fuller. Like the air itself has decided there is no rush.

There seems to be a tendency to treat August as an ending — the end of summer, the end of ease, the beginning of the scramble back to schedules and structure. I understand that. I get it, because for most people it is exactly that: back to school, back to the office, the aggressive push for third and fourth quarter. But that is not my thing. I do not live August that way.

Ever since I can recall, August has always been the fullest season.

Not the beginning and not the end. The full, ripe, unhurried middle of everything good. Summer does not end in August. It is extended. And I have always carried it all the way through, right to the last day, without apology and without rushing toward what comes next.

Maybe that is because August is mine.

It is my birthday month. My most reflective month. The month when the quieter parts of me — the writer, the dreamer, the woman who moves through the world with intention — show back up and take their rightful place.

And I did not forget who she was. Life simply got loud.

Somewhere between work and responsibilities and just keeping up with the ordinary demands of living, the more reflective but jubilant parts of me waited. Patiently. The way August always waits — unhurried, certain it will arrive in its own time.

And here it is. Month eight. The eighth chapter of 2026. The first Sunday of the most beautiful month.

My camera roll: Eighth chapter of the book of 2026. Softest I've been all year. Dear August, show me what I need to see.

Like some of you, I have reinvented myself so many times I have lost count. And I am in the midst of one even now. Approaching 62, launching, creating, writing and all that I am building — none of it feels like reinvention from the outside in. It feels like a return. Like finally having enough quiet to hear what was always true.

The Long Game is not a race, it never was. It was always a return. And when August comes around, it always seems to remind me of that.

Continue letting summer be summer. All August. Do not start rushing into the next season, the next thing, the next version of yourself before you have fully inhabited this one.

May a little sweetness, unexpected and unplanned, fall right into your lap this month. And may it be just what you had been needing to revive your spirit and your hope.

May August be especially good to you.

Most sentences heal the writer first.

This Sunday, my ritual is simple. I will sit with August, letting it be what it has always been for me. Full. Soft. Mine.

Softest I have been all year.

Wish that for you too.

Dear God, thank You for August. For the fullness of this season and the quiet it brings when we finally let it. Thank You for every chapter that felt like an ending but turned out to be a return. As we step into this new month, help us stay unhurried, trust the timing, and receive whatever sweet and unexpected thing You have waiting. May this month be a return to ourselves, our purpose, and to the joys that have always been ours to keep. Amen.

What does August mean to you? Is it an ending or a beginning? Or something else entirely? Drop me a comment — I would love to know.

Share this with someone who needs permission to slow down and let August be full.

With my sweet Sunday love,
