If you have been waiting for permission to slow down without guilt, this is it.
Today marks the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and the official beginning of summer. For centuries, people have marked this day as a time of light, abundance, gratitude, and renewal. There is comfort in the reminder that life unfolds in seasons and that each season carries its own invitation.
I pay attention to these moments. Not because I am an avid follower of horoscopes, but because I have come to appreciate the wisdom of seasons. I notice how they affect me. I notice what they invite me to release and what they encourage me to embrace.
So when I came across what this summer solstice represents for my sign, Leo, I felt like it was speaking directly to me, something that has been told to me on more than one occasion:
"You don't have to be on 24/7."
I don't know about you, but that felt like permission.
Permission to disconnect from the pressure to constantly produce, achieve, and prove. Permission to rest.
As I reflect on this Summer Solstice, I can't help but think about how different this season feels from the beginning of the year.
January and February were shaky. I was still coming off the heels of a heavy year and slowly metabolizing all that had happened. Looking back now, I realize that healing has its own timetable. Grief does not care about calendars. Neither does hope.
Which is why I don’t take this and the current season of my life lightly. Not because life suddenly became perfect, but joy arrived quietly, gradually, and unexpectedly through beautiful memories, unexpected connections, new experiences, and gentle reminders that life still has lovely surprises waiting around the corner.
The Summer Solstice feels symbolic to me for a different reason. Not because it promises endless sunshine, but because it reminds us that seasons change.
And maybe that is true of us, too.
Trust your personal seasons. You will sense them. You will know. And remember they do change. Which is why it is so important to be wherever you are and take what you need from there.
We don't have to rush the process. We don't have to chase the light. Sometimes, all we have to do is trust that it will find us.
More and more, I am learning that a beautiful life does not come by rushing forward. It is built by slowing down, paying attention, making small courageous changes, and remaining deeply grateful for what is already here.
So with this year's Summer Solstice falling on a Sunday, it is the perfect opportunity to embrace my Sunday reflections, which I title Blessings of the Sunday R's:
- Rest, because pauses are productive too.
- Renewal, because every season offers us a fresh beginning.
- Rejoicing, because gratitude turns ordinary moments into treasured memories.
- Reflection, because growth often happens when we slow down long enough to notice.
- Radiance, because joy is meant to be shared.
- Receiving, because blessings are not only meant to be given, but also welcomed with open hands.
Not as things to strive for, but as gifts to receive.
As we welcome this new season, may this Summer Solstice remind you that you do not have to rush, hurry, or prove anything to anyone. You are allowed to choose gratitude over hurry, presence over perfection, and joy over pressure. You do not have to be "on" all the time. You are allowed to be soft. You are allowed to begin again. You are allowed to simply enjoy the season you are in.
- Not to chase the light.
- But simply to feel it.
- And somehow, that feels like enough.
- Go where you glow and turn up your audacity a notch.
If this season is asking you to slow down, give yourself something soft to land on. The pause. tee is available now at aubriea.com.
Turn your audacity up a notch.
